Color theory: Colors-Coca-Cola


The traditional color wheel is a useful way of primary colors arranged and facilitates any space or decorating project charting.

There are three basic color categories: During this session we looked at various examples of them.

The main colors consists of red, yellow and blue. This is the main components of which are created all the other colors.

Secondary colors are orange, purple and green. Each of these colors is created by combining two primary colors. Red and yellow consist of orange, blue and red – violet, blue and yellow – green.

Tertiary colors are obtained by mixing primary colors with secondary or mixing two secondary colors with each other. Eg., Greenish yellow (yellow and green) or magenta (purple and red).

So at the beginning of this session we had to draw a circle and paint it in red color as Coca-Cola can. The final outcome of all class was very different some of them was pretty dark or light red. The moral of this exercise is If one says “Red” (the name of a color)
And there are 50 people listening,It can be expected that there will be 50 reds in their minds.
And one can be sure that all these reds will be very different.


Surreal Story of design: 05.19.2017 Frottage


On this lesion when were given  a simple task and few words. Using given words we had to find the most suitable texture and transfer it onto the paper.

Balance, Proximity, Alignment, Repetition, contrast, white space. When all these  drawings were done we had to mix it with other people drawings and take it 6 drawings of different people. Here we came up with the second part of this session. We had to draw objects onto textured drawings, buildings stairs etc. here I tried to use shapes of colors  by creating them in to the buildings, stairs and more. Later on we had to draw a character for each word. It was difficult to draw something on the other texture marks.  That’s why my object was not really linked with objects drawings. Here I tried to imagine a situation or character which would be describe given words. But I did not had any context for those character. They were not related with the objects or each other. Here I did used a charcoal which I never used before.

Speaking about crit. Day it was difficult to speak about the outcome…which not really has the context behind.

Observation studies :matchbox Week workshop

For this session we had to prepare a matchbox with some small items in it  for example; pin, string, needle etc. As we had to put everything in to the box I decided to do opposite. Let’s say just think outside the box where in result I placed my items onto the white paper.  Soon  we were ready to start  this session we started to observe and record all the different textures of the objects in our matchbox.

For that we created a template and filled with textures which I did found on my objects. In some of the boxes I drew an object or part of item with a reason to represent my textures more successfully. But one of the tutors did not liked my idea of chosen purple paper and textures representations. In his opinion it is not texture even within of the objects there was texture….  I redone my texture boxes . After we finished with textures we had to put those textures in the other boxes with geometrical figures. When everything was done we had to draw 5 A5 size drawings with objects from our “match boxes” – I would call it objects from my pocket. The drawing process was difficult and hard to me as I never done Life still drawing before.

Next day we had to draw one more A5 size drawing. For this one I quickly drew a phone.  The time spent for this drawing was just warming up before we started working on huge sheets of lining paper. Here we had to choose one of our drawing and enlarge it onto the lining paper. For that I made a grid of  4×2 boxes which helped me enlarge my image. To be honest I did not enjoyed this session and my drawings looked like I did not put a lot of effort. Why?  Because I am not familiar with this discipline and it hard to draw a accurate drawing of object from real life not from my head.

British Museum

This workshop was really fun to me. We had to visit a British Museum and make more than 100 drawings. For the first part of this project I had to draw 50x objects as well as draw them I had to write down some information about them. Who made it, when it was etc.

For the next part I had to draw 50x people- as well as drawing the people I had to invent the following for each person I draw. What’s their name, Where do they live? What characteristic from the following list would I apply to them?

During my visit British Museum I tried to draw much as possible. I could not manage to draw  50x each because that day this museum was super crowdie and people were pushing each other with reason to see exhibited objects. It was difficult to concentrate and draw calmly. But anyway I think would be enough those sketches which I managed to produce.

For the  3 part of this short brief I had to use only these drawings and written information for the last outcome.

1 – Protagonist – The protagonist is the central person or object in a

story, and is often referred to as the story’s main character. She, he

(or they) is faced with a dif culty that must be resolved. The

protagonist may not always be admirable (e.g. an anti-hero);

nevertheless s/he must command involvement on the part of the

viewer, or better yet, empathy.

2 – Antagonist – The antagonist is the character(s) (or situation) that

represents the opposition against which the protagonist must contend. In other words, the antagonist is an obstacle that the protagonist must overcome.

3 – Your story can be as abstract as you wish, and any character can be symbolic of something else. A symbolic character is any character or object whose very existence represents some major idea or aspect of society.

Option 2 – Reportage / Documentary / Editorial

Make a minimum of 4 drawings that in some way communicate why

people visit the British Museum for Monocle Magazine.

I had chose Option 1 And drew this short narrative of 4  drawings.

Juke box Jive

For this project we received a brief from a client which is a publisher who is about to launch a new zine onto the market, entitled “Back in the Dayz”.

A regular feature of the zine is a competition in the form of an illustrated story: Juke box Jive. The subject matter of the story board is a visual interpretation of the lyrics of a song from the past. Here is my task to make a story board from the playlist presented to meet the criteria set by the client.

Clients criteria:

Text should be kept to a minimum.

We got a layout of 9 boxes, a minimum of 6 or maximum  of 9 boxes must be used.

A minimum of 3 colors.

For the first task I had to select a 36 songs from the list which I was given. Then I had to listen  for at least couple of times all of my choices.  For research purpose I had to find all lyrics of my songs as well.

Second task of this project was to chose the only one song out of 3 which would be the final song for a visual interpretation.

When I did chose my last song I began to do sketches into my sketchbook. Here I was using soft pencils.

Later on I developed my ideas by adding black outlines and colors.

My chosen song was The Clash – London Calling

This song was not the easiest song to interpret for me and I spend loads of time by sketching ideas, thinking about the layout etc. At the beginning I planned to illustrate only few sentences from a song. I wanted to make my illustrations readable and understandable and directly linked to the song. As I faced many troubles finding ways to represent my ideas as a illustration I was considering to start new sketches but more abstract way. But after I was finished with few sketches I decided to stick with one idea. Here I used  Big Ben tower as a one of the main details of my illustrations. I am not born here in UK so when I am thinking about London the first thing which comes to my head is Big Ben tower. Also as a first object shown in the official video clip of that song is actual Big Ben tower. The second Obvious thing which is related with calling is a phone. So here I tried to combine Big Ben and phone in case to create an illustration which would fit the song. I ended up creating 6 variations of my ideas.

Natural History Museum

Straight  after visiting Victoria and Albert Museum I stepped into the Natural history museum. I said hi to my old friend   Dippy-The Diplodocus in Hintze Hall. When I was a teenager I was really interested into paleontology, most of my free time  I spend reading paleontology and archaeology encyclopedias and digging  gravel quarries .And all my spent time on that did not go vainly. I found many interesting fossilized examples, which I categorized and grouped into different card boxes (under my bed). So always while visiting Natural History museum I never miss an opportunity to visit old fossils and Minerals galleries. The Natural History Museum  is the largest natural history museum in Britain. It includes the nation’s main collections of specimens of life, rocks and minerals . The museum building was opened in 1881 and it was called the British Museum at the beginning and only in late 1992 Natural History Museum become fully independent to use its present name. The Natural History Museum’s own a huge Mineralogy displays remain largely unchanged as an example of the 19th-century display techniques of the Waterhouse building. Likewise, natural history collections also  include current and historical records of animals, plants, fungi, ecosystems, geology, paleontology, climatology, and much more. As this Museum are scientific institution you can found a wide range of galleries which you can see it today. Related museums: The first natural history museum was possibly that of Swiss scholar Conrad Gessner, established in Zürich in the mid-16th century.

The Muséum National d’Histoire Naturelle, established in Paris in 1635, was the first natural history museum to take the form that would be recognized as a natural history museum today.

Fossils are the preserved remains or traces of animals, plants, and other organisms from the remote past. When I looking to these natural patterns I always feel very impressed. Details of these preserved samples just stunning me. By the looking, at these fossils, I unintentionally came up with few questions. When people started to collect and understand the importance of these rocks and fossils? Who started?

“Palaeontology  is the scientific study of life that existed prior to, and sometimes including, the start of the Holocene Epoch(roughly 11,700 years before present). First, paleontological observations have been documented in 5th century BC. But the real  science of the Palaeontology was established only in the 18th century. And Georges Cuvier was one of the first who started it.

Georges Cuvier(1769-1832):This French  naturalist and zoologist can be rightfully called the father of paleontology. Georges were major figure in natural science research and he worked on comparative anatomy through his work in comparing living animals with fossils.

And after looking and seeing many samples of fossils I can say it is real natural art. Another thing what is beautiful – Minerals.

 Minerals is another kind of natural art made of the naturally occurring chemical compound. Usually of the crystalline form. These minerals always remind me the universe for some reason, the diversity of difference they can be pure and cold they can by muddy and warm etc. After the visit, I was inspired so much to try collage to depict my ideas. It was difficult for me to sketch up some minerals because people crowd. And second, it is difficult to depict the wild beauty of minerals shapes or color.

So instead of sketching crystals  I decided to make a collage. And here some artist who inspired me.

The first one was an American illustrator Frank Frazetta (1928-2010). Known as a fantasy and science fiction artist. He not only produced a lot of amazing mystical illustrations but also created numerous vinyl and book covers, posters and magazines. A lot of his illustrations shows strong male or female figure. Which gave me  an idea that I should use mine or another man figure in this little photo collage project.

Speaking about photo collage there is one artist who gave me allot of inspiration. Collage artist and filmmaker from California Eugenia Loli. Her works are amazing and kind of vintage and modern at the same time. I came across of Eugenia’s work on Instagram and was really fascinated by the way she incorporates universe in a lot of her work. That mixture of old fashion magazines or posters with the universe details makes it unique to me. Universe and planets were always very inspiring that is why I instantly could refer to Eugenia’s work and drew some inspiration from it.





Science museum

Another museum  which I had visited and really enjoyed is  Science museum . It is   the best place in the world for people to enjoy science. A museum was founded in 1857It included a collection of machinery which became the Museum of Patents in 1858 and the Patent Office Museum in 1863. This collection contained many of the most famous exhibits of what is now the Science Museum. The Science Museum contains a huge collection forms an enduring record of scientific, technological and medical achievements from across the globe.Most of this collection belonged to Bennet Woodcroft. (20 December 1803 – 7 February 1879). He was an English textile manufacturer, industrial archaeologist, pioneer of marine propulsion. If not this man probably we would not be able to see notable items of historical machinery.  As a sample the world’s oldest surviving steam railway locomotive (1814) the first steamship to be operated commercially in Europe and etc.

I could say that visit  of the Science Museum  indirectly helped me  with the project, of course, I attended this place earlier, In this case, I found a nice area to sit down and rest . I cleared my minds and pocket I took a piece of paper and start writing “have to do” list for next week. With a reason to target my timing. After that, I did pass through the main hall exhibition again. What mostly I did like from this museum it’s old cars. They remind me my childhood and one computer game called “Mafia”. All those old cars gave me a bit of nostalgia that sufficiently suppressed my tiredness so that I could enjoy the time in this museum.

Ps. Deep freeze astronaut ice-cream was very good. It was the first time when I tried some astronauts food in my life, and this little thing gave my kind of flash back  to my childhood again. I was maybe 5 years old and always dreamed of becoming an astronaut. Probably not the most original idea but I was really enjoying my time while constructing astronaut gear and space ships from cardboard boxes, even drew a few maps with fancy space planets which I could conquer.

Right now I checked the official web site of Science Museum and find out that they have new screening exhibition called “Hidden Universe 3D (U)- With real images of distant galaxies, the sun, and Mars, taken by Hubble and the world’s most powerful telescopes. And I missed the last screening which one is currently displayed . Hope they will make some extra screenings in the future and that will be a reason to visit this museum again and  see everything that I missed .






Normally I am trying to avoid McDonald’s or similar fast food/junk places. But I cannot do a research about this place without visiting it. When I think about McDonald’s the first what comes to my head is queue and pigeons. People are like pigeons they are always hungry, they always vying who will be first and etc. I haven’t been in McDonald’s maybe for 3years, and when I visited my local Mc I was surprised because that place is  semi-self service type now. Of course, you can choose if you want to stay in the queue or put your card into machine and chose your meal from the screen. The history of the global fast food company started with two brothers Richard and Maurice McDonald opening the very first McDonald’s restaurant in California, the USA in 1940. Franchising began for McDonald’s in 1953, and four restaurants were opened in the same year. Since then, due to efficient strategy, flexibility and intense marketing strategy the brand have become a part of US culture. In over 60years McDonald’s become a huge chain of fast food restaurants . I think that we all are our personal body prisoners. Maybe brothers McDonald’s thought the same.

Some people can find some problems with it some, no, personally, I think that this is  creating more and more problems. A number of McDonald’s restaurants globally 36000 and yes they creating thousands of job places but do not forget that fact that in most of those restaurants they starting to use self-service machines, which means that less human hands will be involved.


McDonald’s logo design represents more than fast food this one of the top brands in the world . It’s become a cultural icon synonymous with capitalism, globalization.

Pound land

Poundland was one of the places which I had visited this month. And always I go there I always quit kind of sad with empty hands. When someone starts to speak about this shop or either I see  this particular shop in my head comes a couple of words- Cheap plastic. Everything there is made or covered with a cheap plastic and it saddens me.

Pound land is a British variety store chain, listed on the London Stock Exchange, that sells most of the items in its stores for 1 pound. This shop was established in April 1990 by Dave Dodd and Stephen Smith. Like many of its rivals, Poundland operates a constantly rotating product line with all product price 1 Pound.

These two guys knew everything about price point retailing and psychological pricing that is why they expanded their brand chain so widely over the world. Variety stores is a retail store that sells a wide range of inexpensive household goods. Pricing /marketing strategy are based on the theory that certain prices have a psychological impact. For example, retail prices are often expressed as “odd prices”: a little less than a round number e.g. 1.99 are associated with spending $1 rather than $2. The theory that drives this is that lower pricing such as this institutes greater demand than if consumers were perfectly rational. In my opinion, it is cheating people and people deceive themselves. Poor families go to this kind of shops they trying to save some extra money but they paying not that less that they think even for poor quality products. Which can cause spending more on the same type of product than usually?








Studio:Week 5


Today we received part C of the  Unit 1 project :what is it?
For this task I have to explore a new  or existing  relationship between the two objects I had chosen.

Ima explained to us  about narrative and the types of the narratives. They could be linear or non-linear or even both. She also explained that we have to analyse our research ,isolate areas for further exploration and development. I also have to identify possibilities for developing and extending my ideas by using range of methods and processes to augment experimentation. And for sure after that I have to produce a series of not final outcomes, which would extend my gathered information in to visual forms.

Later we started with an amazing studio exercise.

Visual Bingo:

Every one of us got a 35 blank sheets of paper and we had to fold each of them in half and then the fun started. Firstly we drew a cover for our little book “Visual Bingo”.  Then Lee gave us  the word references and numbers and we had to draw the first think that comes to our head. For each of them we got 1-2min to draw. It was a perfect exercise for me because it was first time that I draw something that I could not imagine that I would ever draw. For example “Never kiss 16″,”Gordon’s breakfast”, “Do not fart” and so on. Another interesting feature: we could not use any writings in our drawings. So I had to think about different ways to express that word or sentence in understandable (or not) language. In one hour we did a lot and it was fun, I do really enjoy Lee lessons because after them everything becomes clear to me. When we finished with our Visual Bingo drawings we had to chose a 10 best sketches number them and write a narrative story. We have to follow our numbers in order .With this I had some problems, I was bit tired and confused on what to write . But later on I came up with some ideas which ones I start to write on my paper and it become in to little story from 10 different drawings.

Studio:Week 4

Week 4

We had a great studio session with  Ima today. For this manifesto project I have not used a lot of sketching as a project is based on written information. However in this session Ima asked us to explain these words in our own understanding.

Typography -Arrangement of text.

Typeface – it is a font family. For example Helvetica and other families.

Sans Serif and Serif

Sans-Serif- letterform is one that does not have the small projecting features called “serifs” at the end of strokes.

Serif- you can recognize it from the small line attached to the end of a stroke in a letter or symbol.

Then she explained to us about styles. That there is 2 different styles.

Also now I know what Kerning and Leading is. It is simple: kerning is space between the letters and leading is space between the lines.


After this little warm up she gave to us a3 size sheets with allot of questions. This questionnaire  was full of simple and deep questions. About my age ,my birth place ,religion, what I do like what not and opinions. It was kind of research about myself. I understood that while doing this and I think it can be really helpful in the future researching. The more questions I have the more I can try and answer then within my research. Ima gave to us 30min to answer as much as possible. Later  we had to cut out human size piece of paper and by using brushes and black ink we had to transfer answers from before on this sheet of paper. The catch was that the answer had to fit in one line. That  is why I had to change the kerning in 1 word or few symbols answers. Firstly I write my name and age in massive size writing later on I figure out that if I will continue with this size it will be not enough space. Then I started decrease my writing size and placing. In the end of my poster I had to rotate my paper to change lines  with the reason to fit them all in this piece of paper. In the end I was not really happy with my poster  but this is not the final outcome. It is a sketch about our own manifesto. All of these personal questions was research about myself  which we depicted on that piece of paper. And it is sketch who could be developed in to  amazing manifesto poster. After this session I did understand that sketches can be not only drawings with pencils or other chosen media. It can be writing as well , which could be successfully used in development of the projects.

Studio:Week 3

Week 3

This week was really productive. I had few inductions which I found really helpful. One of them are screen printing part A and part B. Last week Tony showed some tricks how to set up table for screen printing, how to measure and make the prints accurate. This step is essential because I decided to make 4-5 colour layers. We were working on prepared screens. Later on we were shown how  to expose our screens on a huge exposing machine. Part B was all about how to prepare your screen for printing from A to Z. It was a different look in to screen printing from a technical side.

Teacher  underlined that the all process begins from screen reclaiming. First what we have to do is remove old tape from the screens and then we have to wet our screens from the both sides with  the hose. Then he explained us what kind of chemicals  we  were going to use and that they are low risk chemicals. After moisten the screen we need to apply Stencil Remover and scrub with the brush in both sides.

After that he demonstrated to us how to properly blast our screens by using the water pressure gun. And the proper way to do that is 2cm away from the mesh. We have to always start from the bottom of the screen horizontally until mid screen then flip the screen to finish blasting the remaining stencil.

After that we had to wet our screens from both sides again by using hose. Next step of preparation was to use degreaser and scrub with the brush both sides, clean it and dry it.

When our screens were dried we had to clamp our screens stencil side out under the bracket , the coating emulsion was already prepared so we don’t have to do that  so we could start with coating process. We filled up our coating trough till half  . It is important to bring the trough to the mesh about 2cm above the edge of the frame, continuing with that  we need to tilt the Trough until the emulsion reaches the mesh. We needed to do that with applying some pressure all the way to the top otherwise our screen will be not properly coat. After this we needed to put this screen to dry again and screen is ready for expose process!

Studio:Week 2

This week in studio Tony learned us how to do screen printing. He gave us a little project  “direct printing “and the “floating stencil”. The  theme of this project was “Alter Ego”(The Other I)”.

This project introduced me to a creative and experimental approach to screen printing. I been shown how to utilize torn and/or cut paper stencilling techniques, to generate layers when screen printing. These methods was applied when the screen was setup onto the printing press. This technique are called “direct imaging”. Teacher also introduced us to an new method, which is “floating stencil” technique.

An alter – ego refers to a second self, a second personality or a persona within a person, who is often oblivious  to the persona’s action.

For this task we had to explore the possibilities of this theme in context with the challenge of making an image of my own Alter -Ego. I can use many layers as the image needs using experimental methods demonstrated to me. I can also only photographic positive to achieve this.

For this theme I draw me  with a strange crystal crown on my head and my body is in the open space. The idea of this crown and background of the simplified universe is that me receiving  new ideas from the universe while I am living in my own little world. Which are depicted as a similar to  earth planet on my belly. The rays form my eyes means never ending search for the new techniques which I could use it in my outcomes. And all these rays  out of my little world is the outcomes going back to the universe. I could interpret that the universe is a public.
